THE FRESHMEN JUST KEEP GETTING BETTER

AZUSA, Calif. - The Sea Lions' freshmen class continued to impress on the track and on the field this season. Thrower Anessa Chirgwin and pole vaulter Brianne Camarena each moved up on the school's all-time top 10 list and others ascended on the 2021 PacWest performance list on Saturday at the APU Invitational. Anessa Chirgwin moved from sixth to third on the Sea Lions' all-time top 10 list in the discus with a throw of 143-3 (43.67m). That toss also earned her second place on the PacWest performance list. She made another move on a top 10 list after registering a throw of 140-1 (42.69m) in the hammer. That mark shot her from 10th to fifth in school history and into seventh on the PacWest performance list.
 
Brianne Camarena was not satisfied with her 10th place ranking in school history in the pole vault, and today she cleared 11-1.75 (3.40m) to jump from 10th into a tie for eighth. She is now fifth on the PacWest performance list.
 
Aubrey Nex was only .08 seconds off earning her own spot in the school's top 10 list. The Temecula native ran a time of 4:37.60 in the 1500m to move to third on the PacWest performance list.
 
Madison Worley registered the best mark for a Sea Lion this season in the 400m, running a 58.81 to move to 11th on the PacWest performance list.
 
The 4x400m relay team, consisting of Avery Avina, Worley, Blanca Granados, and Natalya Gomez, put together their season-best performance to post the best time at the meet with a 4:03.37.
 
Zita Molnar returned to competition for the first time this season. The school-record holder in the 3k steeple dipped her foot in the water this race, posting a time of 12:00.52.
 
In the pole vault, Peyton Yoshida also had a strong performance, registering a career-best height of 10-8 (3.25m) to move into a tie for sixth on the PacWest performance list.
 
Bella Patterson (javelin), Logan Williams (800m), and Blanca Granados (long jump) also all moved to the top of the Sea Lions' 2021 performance list with their efforts on Saturday.
 
Next
Point Loma will be off next week before continuing competition on April 16 in the Bryan Clay Invite at Azusa, Calif.
