SEA LIONS ADD NAMES TO TOP 10 LISTS IN FINAL MEET

AZUSA, Calif.
- The Point Loma track & field team closed out the 2021 season at the APU Last Chance Twilight meet on Friday and Saturday. (May 14-15).
 
Avery Avina left it all on the track in her final career race. The senior from Martinez, Calif., registered a career-best mark in the 400m hurdles, speeding around the track once in the time of 1:03.23. This time was almost a half-second faster than her previous PR which she set the other week in the PacWest Championships. She was just three-hundredths of a second from adding her name to the Sea Lions' all-time top 10 list.
 
Sprinters Rahel Rudel and Blanca Granados each added PRs of their own and moved up on the school's all-time top 10 list in the 100m. Rudel posted a time of 12.16 to shave .08 seconds off her previous career-best and closed out her career by moving into third place in the school record books. Granados jumped into a tie for fifth in the history books with a mark of 12.31. The time was .06 seconds better than her previous PR.
 
Granados was not done there as she also moved up in the record books to sixth with a time of 25.17 in the 200m. That time topped her previous best mark of 25.27 which the freshman from Chula Vista set at the PacWest Championships.
 
Those sprinters along with Madelynn Worley had another strong performance in them as they teamed up in the 4x100m relay. Granados, Rudel, Avina, and Worley combined to have their best performance of the year in the event, registering a season-best time of 47.54.
 
Other Sea Lions registering season or career-best times at the last chance meet included Madelynn Worley (400m, 57.44), Natalya Gomez (800m, 2:20.99), Kenna True (800m, 2:22.34), Gabrielle Martin (1500m, 4:56.54).
 
Anessa Chirgwin closed out her impressive freshman season with a throw of 145-10 (44.45m) in the discus.
 
This completes the 2021 season for the Point Loma track & field team.
