MOLNAR LEADS STRONG DAY ON THE TRACK FOR PLNU AT HOME INVITE

3/26/2022 5:50:00 PM

SAN DIEGO-Paced by some excellent around efforts that included a pair of individual wins, the Point Loma Sea Lions showcased another marked improvement at the 14th annual PLNU Invitational Saturday at the PLNU Track.

Zita Molnar's 1st place finish in the 5000m along with another dominating win from Anessa Chirgwin in the Discus highlighted Point Loma's wins while Blanca Granados placed 2nd in both the 100m and 200m dashes.

However, it was Molnar's mark in the 5000, a full minute of the 2nd place finisher, that set the tone for Point Loma.

In sprints, Granados was just one-hundredth of a second ahead of teammate Madelynn Worley for 2nd place in the 100m. They were both 3 tenths of a second behind the winner from Cal State San Bernardino.

In the 200m, Granados distinctly held 2nd while Worley finished 5th, just ahead of Jemmia Pennix.

In the hurdles, Nica Zsiros sparked her busy day with a third-place finish posting a 16.48. Makenna Sullivan was just behind her in 4th place with a 16.80.

Charis Johnston led PLNU's efforts in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a 1:08.92 for 8th place. Just ahead of Katelyn Muniz's 1:10.64.

The 4x100 team of Macey Groves, Granados, Worley, and Zsiros combined for 2nd with their season-best 48.48.

In the field events, Chirgwin led the pack again with a solid day all-around. In the Discus, she was the only competitor over 40 meters and she exceeded that mark every time. Her winning toss of 43.45 came in her first attempt.

Chirgwin finished 2nd in the Hammer on a windy morning, delivering a 39.72. The winning mark was over 50 meters.

Chirgwin also set a personal record in the shot put, placing fourth with an 11.11-meter throw on her final attempt. She improved on each of her tosses.

Early in the morning, Zsiros started the day with her first attempt at the Javelin as a Sea Lion, finishing 4th with a 26.46-meter throw. Bella Patterson was not too far behind her, finishing 6th with a 26.26-meter throw.

Back on the infield, Makenna Sullivan's triple jump highlighted Point Loma's efforts as she finished 2nd with a 10.20m mark.

In the high jump, Gabriella Lopez and Natalie Edwards were 7th and 8th clearing 1.45 and 1.40 respectively.

Point Loma will compete in three straight events in Southern California before the PacWest Championships will be hosted by the Sea Lions at PLNU. Next up for Point Loma is the UC Irvine Invitational next Saturday, April 1st.
