CARY, N.C. – Point Loma's next opponent at the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championships in Cary will be No. 6 seed Rollins, which won 7-5 on Wednesday in an elimination game against Southern Arkansas. The game will begin at 10:30 a.m. (Pacific) on Thursday at Coleman Field as the Sea Lions look for a spot in the national championship.
The eight-team tournament is a true double elimination tournament, meaning that the teams' records do not reset for the championship series. Point Loma will get two chances if necessary to defeat Rollins and win the top half of the bracket.
If the Sea Lions win the top half, they will play against the winner of the bottom half of the bracket for the national title. If both teams are undefeated in the tournament at that point, then it will be a best-of-3 series for the title, but if either team reaches Saturday's final with one loss, then their opponent will be just one win away from earning the trophy.
There are five teams remaining in the tournament after Southern Arkansas was eliminated Wednesday. On the bottom half of the bracket, No. 1 seed North Greenville is undefeated and will face the winner of No. 5 Angelo State and No. 8 West Chester.
Point Loma's Thursday game against Rollins will be streamed by the
NCAA. If necessary, the two teams will play each other a second time on Friday at a time to be determined.
