PLNU BASEBALL TO HOST NCAA WEST REGIONAL

POINT LOMA EARNS NO. 1 SEED IN WEST REGION

5/12/2024 8:55:00 PM

(SAN DIEGO) The NCAA Division II Baseball West Regional is coming back to America's Most Scenic Ballpark.

PLNU Baseball was announced as the No. 1 seed in the West Region when the NCAA Tournament brackets were announced on Sunday night, earning the right to host the regional for the second time in program history.

Point Loma (40-10-1 overall) is paired up with fourth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona (31-22) and fifth-seeded Cal State San Marcos (27-19).

The three-team, double elimination tournament will take place Thursday through Saturday at Carroll B. Land Stadium.

The winner will advance to the Super Regionals (May 24-25), with the highest seed remaining in the region hosting.

PLNU won a third-straight PacWest regular season title before also claiming the PacWest Tournament crown. The Sea Lions enter the regional having won 22 of their last 25 games.

Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Marcos are both members of the CCAA, having finished second and third respectively in their conference regular season standings.

PLNU and CPP are paired up in the regional for the third-consecutive season, having split the last two years in the NCAA postseason. The two teams played this season on April 9 in Pomona, with the Sea Lions winning 17-4.

Point Loma and CSUSM have not played each other since 2015.

The Sea Lions are making a third-consecutive NCAA West Regional appearance and sixth overall, previously hosting the regional in 2022 before going on to finish as national runner-up.
