PLNU TO HOST CSUMB IN NCAA SUPER REGIONALS

5/22/2024 3:17:00 PM

(SAN DIEGO) For the second time in three years, PLNU Baseball is hosting the NCAA Super Regionals.

On Friday and Saturday, No. 1 seed Point Loma (43-10-1 overall) will host No. 2 seed Cal State Monterey Bay (38-19) to determine who will win the West Region and earn a spot in the NCAA Division II World Series in Cary, North Carolina.

PLNU is making its second-ever Super Regional appearance, while CSUMB is making its second-straight.

Both Point Loma (PacWest) and Cal State Monterey Bay (CCAA) have won their conference regular season titles in each of the past three seasons.

PLNU is coming off its first PacWest Tournament title, while CSUMB has won the CCAA Tournament in back-to-back years.

The Sea Lions will look to make their second NCAA World Series appearance after finishing as national runner-up in 2022.

The Otters are seeking their first-ever World Series berth after losing both Super Regional games last season to eventual national semifinalist Cal State San Bernardino.

PLNU and CSUMB have twice played each other in the NCAA postseason, with both previous occasions coming in the NCAA West Regional.

The Sea Lions won 13-12 in 2018, while the Otters returned the favor last year with an 11-8 victory that ended PLNU's season.

Earlier this year, Point Loma and Cal State Monterey Bay squared off in a four-game series in Seaside back on Feb. 8-10, with Point Loma winning three out of four.

First pitch in the Super Regionals is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Friday. The second game of the series is slated for 11 a.m. on Saturday, with an if-necessary game to follow if needed.
