(HAYWARD, Calif.) PLNU Women's Golf finished its fall schedule in fine fashion, moving up the team leaderboard over the final two rounds to place fifth out of 15 teams at the East Bay Fall Tournament.
Playing at Stonebrae C.C., Point Loma improved its first-round score by 23 strokes in the second round, carding a 299 as a team to tie its best round of the season. The Sea Lions then followed that up with a team score of 301 in Tuesday's third round.
PLNU's second-round score ranked second among all teams, while its third-round score ranked third, as Point Loma led all teams with 140 pars across the three rounds. The Sea Lions finished the first round in 10th place before moving up five spots by tournament's end.
Bella Gunasayan led PLNU on the individual leaderboard, tying for 12th, highlighted by her one-over second round 73.
Annika Yturralde was one shot behind in a tie-for-15th, as she closed her tournament with a one-over 73.
Yturralde's 34 pars ranked seventh among all players, while Gunasayan's 33 tied-for-eighth.
Allie Nguyen (T-21) and
Giana Gunasayan (T-30) also finished in the top-30 individuals.
Nguyen carded five birdies and an eagle on her way to a third-round 74, as she was one of 11 players in the tournament to record an eagle, while
Giana Gunasayan tied-for-10th in the tournament with a four-over score on par-three holes.
Point Loma will resume competition in the spring at the LA Spring Kickoff Feb. 2-3 at Rio Hondo G.C. in Downey.
