(SAN DIEGO)
Jake Entrekin is the first PLNU Baseball player to earn First Team All-American honors by three separate organizations, after the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-American Teams were announced on Friday.
Â
Entrekin (designated hitter) is joined on the ABCA/Rawlings All-American Team by PLNU second baseman
Luke Reece, who received Third Team recognition.
Â
Both were selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region First Team on Wednesday.
Â
This season, Entrekin batted .402 with 23 home runs and 74 RBIs, setting a new single-season program record for RBIs in the process. His .402 batting average is the second best in the program's NCAA era, while his 23 homers are second most by a Sea Lion in a single-season all-time.
Â
The Point Loma career home run and RBI leader led the West Region in homers, slugging % (.825), on-base % (.524), OPS (1.349) and walks (42) this year. His 65 runs scored and 42 walks rank third and fourth respectively in PLNU history for a single season.
Â
Entrekin also earned First Team All-American honors from the NCBWA and D2CCA.
Â
Reece batted .366, scoring 57 times, while hitting 10 homers and tallying 56 RBIs. He also put together a .600 slugging % and a 1.045 OPS, hitting multiple homers in three games.
The La Mesa native had 18 doubles, the seventh most by a Sea Lion in a single campaign all-time, while his 57 runs scored this season rank 10th in program history.
Â
Reece becomes the third PLNU second baseman to receive All-American honors, and second in the program's NCAA era, while Entrekin is the first designated hitter to earn the distinction.
Â
Multiple Sea Lions have earned All-American honors in the same season for the second straight year and the fifth in the last seven. PLNU has had at least one All-American selection in each of the past eight seasons.
Â
Point Loma went 39-18 overall this season and played in a fourth straight NCAA West Regional, finishing one game shy of a third Super Regionals appearance in four seasons.
