PLNU HAS FOUR PACWEST SCHOLAR-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR

SEA LIONS LEAD CONFERENCE FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

(SAN DIEGO) Point Loma led all conference schools with four PacWest Scholar-Athletes of the Year in their respective sports.
 
Alexander Leischner (Men's Tennis) became the first three-time recipient in any sport, while Zackry Paulsen (Men's Basketball) repeated after also receiving the recognition in 2023-24.
 
Alli McDonald (Women's Basketball) and Simon Sagal (Men's Soccer) were the other two Sea Lions to earn the honor.
   
Leischner, who was named to the CSC Academic All-America® First Team for the second time, graduated from PLNU with a 4.0 GPA as a mathematics major and finance minor. He finished his Sea Lions career with a program record seven All-PacWest awards and a conference record 11 singles victories at the PacWest Championships.
 
Paulsen (3.96 GPA in MA Organizational Leadership) averaged 17.4 points per game for PLNU, leading the Sea Lions to PacWest regular season and tournament titles. The First Team All-PacWest and All-West Region honoree was named the PacWest Championships Most Outstanding Player and led the Sea Lions to the regional championship game.
 
McDonald (4.0 GPA in MS Kinesiology) was the PacWest Newcomer of the Year in women's basketball, while also earning First Team All-Conference honors. The PacWest Championships Most Outstanding Player led PLNU to its first PacWest regular season and tournament titles, averaging 11.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
 
Sagal, who received CSC Academic All-America® Third Team recognition, has a 3.78 GPA through two years at Point Loma. The midfielder registered three goals and eight assists for the PacWest champions, earning First Team All-PacWest honors and All-West Region honors.
   
All four are eligible for either the PacWest Male or Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which will be announced on July 2.
