NUA NAMED AVCA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

REYNOLDS, PLNU ALSO GARNER WEEKLY PACWEST AWARDS

(SAN DIEGO) After winning the Colorado Premier Challenge title, PLNU Volleyball garnered several weekly awards from both the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and PacWest Conference.
 
Abigail Nua was named the AVCA Division II National Player of the Week, while she was also selected as the PacWest Player of the Week for the second straight time.
 
Macy Reynolds was tabbed as the PacWest Defender of the Week, while Point Loma is the conference's Team of the Week.
   
Nua is PLNU's second ever AVCA National Player of the Week after Heather Leavitt received the recognition in 2015.
 
The Colorado Premier Challenge MVP averaged 6.23 points per set and 5.4 kills per set in leading Point Loma to a 4-0 trip to Denver, which included victories over three ranked opponents and another receiving votes.
   
Nua posted three double-doubles in the tournament while setting a new season-high with 30 kills against No. 5 West Texas A&M. In the semifinals against No. 25 Wayne State, she recorded 22 kills and 18 digs.
   
Reynolds tallied a career-high 37 digs in that victory over Wayne State, while leading the team in digs in every match. She also had 20 digs against West Texas A&M.
 
The senior libero currently is second in the PacWest with 5.04 digs per set this season, while Nua leads the conference in kills per set (5.35) and points per set (6.17).
   
Point Loma (6-1 overall) moved up to No. 7 in the AVCA Division II Coaches Poll, its highest ever ranking in program history.
 
PLNU returns home to Golden Gym on Wednesday to host Biola at 6 p.m.
