A FALL SEASON FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS

12/23/2025 3:11:00 PM

(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Athletics had a fall for the history books.

Point Loma teams won five trophies, a department record for its four fall sports, as two teams made their deepest postseason runs in program history and all four competed in the NCAA postseason.

For the second time in department history, three Point Loma fall sports teams won PacWest championships on the same day.

Point Loma, winners of the PacWest Bob Hogue Commissioner's Cup last year for the first time, holds a significant lead in those standings once again after the completion of the fall sports seasons.

PLNU has 13.75 points, leading second-placed Hawai'i Hilo by 10.88 points, in the metric that honors the athletic department with the best overall performance in the PacWest based on average conference finish.

Point Loma also ranks 16th in all of NCAA Division II in the Learfield Director's Cup standings, despite just offering four of a possible eight fall NCAA sports.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL (28-5 overall, 11-1 PacWest)
PLNU Volleyball won a first ever NCAA West Regional title before reaching the national semifinals during Point Loma's best postseason run in program history.

The Sea Lions also won a second PacWest title in three seasons.

Abigail Nua became PLNU's first ever D2CCA National Player of the Year, while Flavia Virgili was named AVCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year.

Nua, Sophia Baugh and Macy Reynolds all earned AVCA All-American honors, marking the first time that multiple Point Loma players received either First, Second or Third Team All-American recognition.

MEN'S SOCCER (16-4-2 overall, 9-1 PacWest)
PLNU Men's Soccer reached the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time in program history before falling just short in overtime against eventual national champions Midwestern State, who combined to beat its next two opponents by a 5-0 margin.

Point Loma, the PacWest regular season champions for the third-straight year, won a first conference tournament title in program history.

Cole Friesen and Emmett Layman became the first Sea Lions teammates to earn All-American honors in the same season in the program's NCAA era, while Friesen became the team's first D2CCA West Region Player of the Year.

PLNU's 65 goals scored in 2025 are the most the team has ever scored in a single season in program history.

WOMEN'S SOCCER (10-4-5 overall, 5-1-4 PacWest)
PLNU Women's Soccer won the PacWest Tournament for the second-straight season, as the Sea Lions remain the only team to win the PacWest Tournament in the two years of its existence.

Point Loma's conference tournament crown earned PLNU a seventh-straight NCAA West Regional appearance, with the Sea Lions reaching double-digit wins in each of those seasons.

PLNU received votes in the final United Soccer Coaches Poll of the year.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
PLNU Women's Cross Country finished second at the PacWest Championships before placing sixth at the NCAA West Regional, their best finishes at either postseason meet since 2018.

Maddie Reeves finished fourth at the regional in a school record 6K time, becoming the first Sea Lion to earn an individual qualification spot to the NCAA Championships since 2017.
