9/17/2025 4:13:00 PM

(SAN DIEGO) After a historic performance on Saturday, Maddie Reeves made even more history this week.

Reeves was named the USTFCCCA Division II National Athlete of the Week, becoming the first Sea Lion in PLNU Women's Cross Country history to earn the award.

The senior, who was also selected as the PacWest Runner of the Week, set a new Point Loma 6K program record on Saturday at the Cougar Challenge, crossing the finish line in first place in a time of 20:48.8.

She became the first Sea Lion to win an individual race since Zita Molnar in 2019, as she beat her next closest competitor by 10 seconds.

Reeves has now set the 6K program record three times, surpassing her own record twice, most recently from last season's PacWest Championships when she finished in 21:05.9.

Point Loma placed second as a team at the Cougar Challenge and moved up in both the USTFCCCA regional and national rankings as a result.

PLNU is now ranked fourth in the region and is receiving votes in the national poll for the first time since 2018.

Point Loma is set to compete next at the Riverside Invite, hosted by UC Riverside, on Sep. 27 at 7:15 a.m.
