(SAN DIEGO)
Glen Huggins earned PacWest Pitcher of the Week honors after his masterful outing on Saturday against Westmont helped No. 4 PLNU Baseball clinch the PacWest title.
He is the third PLNU pitcher to earn the honor this season, joining
Derek Silva and
Vaughn Neckar (twice).
Â
In game three of the series, Huggins hurled seven shutout innings and struck out five Warriors, while allowing only three hits.
Â
Kyle Scritzky came out of the bullpen to complete PLNU's ninth shutout of the season with two scoreless innings of his own, in a 7-0 Sea Lions' victory.
Â
Saturday's outing was Huggins' second start of the season in which he went seven innings without conceding a run.
Â
Huggins' fifth win of the spring helped the Sea Lions clinch at least a share of the PacWest championship, before PLNU claimed the outright title later Saturday with a 9-1 victory in the series finale.
Â
Â
Point Loma (35-8 overall, 31-5 PacWest) clinched its fourth PacWest championship in five seasons, doing so with eight games remaining in the regular season.
Â
PLNU is the first PacWest program to win four conference baseball championships.
Â
Point Loma travels to Rocklin to play Jessup in a four-game series this weekend beginning on Friday at noon.
