POINT LOMA REPEATS AS BOB HOGUE COMMISSIONER'S CUP WINNERS

5/19/2026 9:00:00 AM

(SAN DIEGO) For the second straight year, Point Loma reigns over the PacWest.

PLNU won back-to-back Bob Hogue Commissioner's Cups, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday, for once again being the highest achieving athletic department in the PacWest based on average conference finish.

"We are incredibly honored to receive the Bob Hogue Commissioner's Cup and recognize that this achievement reflects the collaborative commitment of our entire athletic department," Athletic Director Jordan Courneya said. "Our coaches, student-athletes, and administrative staff work tirelessly each day to pursue excellence both academically and athletically, while representing Point Loma Nazarene University with faith, character, humility and integrity."

Point Loma ran away with the title this year with a score of 13.00, well ahead of second-placed Fresno Pacific by 2.62 points.

The Sea Lions won the conference's highest honor for the first time last year with a score of 12.36.

Points are awarded based on conference finish in PacWest-sponsored sports and vary depending on the number of schools participating.

For the sports PLNU offers, the regular season standings are considered for soccer, volleyball, basketball and baseball, while conference championship finishes in cross country, golf, track & field and tennis are used.

Point Loma won four PacWest regular season titles (Volleyball, Men's soccer, Men's basketball, Baseball) in 2025-26, with another four runner-up finishes (Women's Cross Country, Women's Basketball, Women's Tennis, Women's Golf).

Men's Basketball extended its conference record with its fifth straight PacWest championship, while Baseball won a fourth PacWest title in five years to become the first PacWest baseball program to win the conference four times.

Men's Soccer won a third consecutive PacWest championship, with Volleyball claiming its second conference crown in three seasons.

Women's Cross Country posted its best conference finish since the 2018-19 year, as did Women's Track & Field. Men's Tennis also tied its best ever finish at the PacWest Championships.

No Sea Lions' squad finished below fourth in the conference.

"This recognition is a testament to the positive culture that has been built across our department, one that challenges our student-athletes to grow in faith as competitors and students," Courneya said. "We are deeply grateful for the support of our campus community, alumni and families who make this success possible."

Point Loma also added four PacWest Tournament titles (Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Men's Basketball, Baseball), which were not factored into the Commissioner's Cup point total, as PLNU's eight conference trophies tied its department record set just last year.

All eleven Sea Lions teams competed in the NCAA postseason for the first time in department history.

Prior to winning its first Commissioner's Cup in 2024-25, Point Loma had finished second in the standings in three of the previous four years.
