(CARY, N.C.) After winning a third West Regional title in five seasons, PLNU Baseball is seeded No. 6 in the NCAA Division II World Series.
Point Loma (49-11 overall) will play its first game against No. 3 seed Catawba (47-12), winners of the Southeast Regional, on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. PT / 1:30 p.m. ET in Cary, N.C. at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
PLNU, seeded second in the West Regional, won both games of its Super Regional against fifth-seeded Northwest Nazarene, prevailing by scores of 5-3 and 6-3.
Catawba, the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional, won two games out of three against fifth-seeded Francis Marion to advance to Cary for the second time in three seasons.
Point Loma and Catawba have never played each other. PLNU traveled the furthest (2,542 miles) of any team in the tournament, while Catawba (119 miles), located in Salisbury, N.C., traveled the shortest distance.
The winner will advance to play the victor between No. 2 seed Tampa (46-8), the two-time defending national champions, and No. 7 seed Bentley (44-15) on Monday at 3 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. ET.
The losers of those two contests will play an elimination game on Monday at 10:30 a.m. PT / 1:30 p.m. ET.
The other side of the bracket features No. 1 West Chester, No. 4 Central Missouri, No. 5 Texas Tyler and No. 8 UIndy.
