(SAN DIEGO) PLNU Women's Golf has hired Andrew Schmautz as assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season, announced Head Coach Miranda Greene.
"I'm thrilled to welcome Andrew Schmautz to Point Loma Nazarene University as our assistant golf coach," Green said. "His energy, work ethic and passion for the game stood out to me right away. His experience as a caddie and strong golf knowledge will be a great asset in helping our young women continue to grow and improve. I'm excited to have him on board and kick off the season together."
Schmautz most recently worked as a golf caddie at PGA Frisco, where he worked with golfers of all different skill levels.
"I'm incredibly excited to join the Point Loma community and be a part of the women's golf program," Schmautz said. "This is a really special opportunity for me because I get to combine my passion for golf with the chance to work with and support a great group of student-athletes."
Schmautz said coaching has always been in his heart. During his work as a caddie, he said he developed a stronger appreciation for the mental side of golf, along with course management and strategy.
"I believe golf is so much more than a game," Schmautz said. "It can really teach you so much about life and who you are – dealing with the ups and downs, the highs and the lows, how you react to adversity, and winning with grace.
"Golf is a great character builder and I'm excited to see our team go out and compete on the course, but more importantly grow as individuals and be ready for the day they leave campus and embark on their next journeys."
Schmautz, who grew up in Montana, earned a bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Montana before earning an MBA from San Diego State.
"I also really believe in PLNU's mission and the emphasis it places on challenging students and serving others through faith," Schmautz said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a special community and can't wait to see where this season takes us."
PLNU Women's Golf opens its 2026-27 campaign Sep. 14-15 at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.
