Women's Soccer vs. Azusa Pacific

Sea Lions Come Up Just Short Against APU

PLNU dropped a tightly contested GSAC game to #4 Azusa Pacific on Saturday, falling 1-0 at home to the Cougars. It was the third loss for the Sea Lions to start of Golden State Athletic Conference play.

After a first half in which each team limited the others offensive chances, the Cougars took advantage of one mistake by the Sea Lion defense to strike first. Heidi Witschi found the net, knocking it past a diving Tiffany Kracy just three minutes into the second half.

That would prove to be all the visiting Cougars would need, although the Sea Lions refused to go quietly. PLNU had numerous second-half opportunities, the closest coming on a cross by Katie Pedlowe that was nearly headed in by two different PLNU players. However that threat, along with all the others, fell short.

The Sea Lions took 11 total shots, 10 of them coming in the second half, including two on goal. APU took eight total shots, spending much of the second half with a more defensive focus.

After a very promising start to the season, the Sea Lions have dropped their first three GSAC games. PLNU (5-3-1, 0-3) will try to end its current losing skid on Wednesday when they host San Diego Christian starting at 4:30 pm.

The Cougars improved to 7-2 overall, 3-0 GSAC.
