Women's Basketball vs. Robert Morris

Sea Lions Top Robert Morris

NAIA No. 3 ranked PLNU held visiting Robert Morris (IL) to a 24 percent shooting average Friday night in Golden Gymnasium to win the non-conference tilt 72-48.  The Sea Lions, meanwhile, were paced by Colleen Planeta who scored 24 points to go with nine rebounds and seven blocks while teammate Liah Ector pulled down 15 boards, scored nine and dished out six assists.

PLNU (7-1) shot 44 percent, grabbed 52 rebounds, blocked 11 shots and forced 25 turnovers in the win.  Robert Morris (10-5) was just 9-of-40 from the field and especially struggled from long-range, making just 3-of-22. The Eagles did pull in 51 rebounds and blocked four shots.

The Sea Lions trailed 7-2 in the early going but went on a 21-2 run to burst out to a 14-point lead. PLNU pushed their advantage to a first-half high 15 at the break.

The second half belonged to PLNU as well. The team was up by 20 after seven minutes had expired in the half and led by as much as 32 points before settling for the 24-point win.

Planeta led all players with the 24 points but took 25 shots in the effort. Ector, who has come close to a double-double on many occasions this season, was one point shy of that goal. The senior guard came close again but made just 1-of-6 free throws.

The entire PLNU team was just 5-for-10 at the stripe, the second straight game that the team was less than effective there. The Sea Lions also hit on just 5-17 threes and turned the ball over 22 times.

Amanda Franz rebounded from a slow start in the opening half to score 12 points and dish out seven assists. Brianna Colon also contributed 12 points in the PLNU win, making 4-5 shots from the field and 2-3 from the arc.

Jerita Gordon and Niara Harris led the Eagles with 12 points. Gordon pulled in 13 rebounds and blocked two shots.

Robert Morris will take on MidAmerica Nazarene in Golden Gym on Saturday, starting at 4:00 pm. On Monday, the Sea Lions host MidAmerica Nazarene at 5:00 pm.
