Tyler Kuehl to Start NECBL All-Star Game

LYNN, MA (July 13, 2010, from www.nsnavs.com) – Six members of the North Shore Navigators have been selected to the 2010 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) All-Star Game set to take place Sunday, July 18 at Cardines Field in Newport, Rhode Island. Among the six is Point Loma Nazarene junior Tyler Kuehl.

Pitchers Crayton Bare (University of Baylor), Nolan Corr (Wheaton College), and Bryant Gauthier (Southern New Hampshire University) will represent the Navigators on the mound, while outfielders Matt Avery (Cypress Junior College) and Jason Banos (Columbia University) will represent the Navigators. Tyler Kuehl was named as the starting second baseman.

Infielder Cody Dent (University of Florida) and catcher Bryce Tafelski (U-Cal Santa Barbara) will serve as alternates for the East.

In addition, North Shore head coach Jeff Waldron, a Lynn Classical and Boston College graduate, will serve as manager for the Eastern division team because the Navigators are currently in first place (16-11) within the division.

"Our organization is extremely proud of and happy for our players' and head coach's selection to the All-Star Game," said Navigators' General Manager Peter Delani. "It speaks highly of the quantity of high caliber talent we have in Lynn this season, and it bodes well for these individual players going forward in their careers.  Last year we had six players chosen to the All-Star Game, four of whom were selected in the 2010 MLB Draft.”

Bare and Corr have been at the forefront of the rotation for the Navs in 2010, as Bare is 3-0 in five starts and has a 1.55 ERA in 29 innings pitched, while Corr is also 3-0 in four starts and is first in the NECBL with a miniscule 0.72 ERA.

Gauthier, a Lynn native and Lynn Classical graduate, has a 1.12 ERA in 10 appearances with one save. The hometown right-hander has struck out 18 and walked only one while allowing just two earned runs in 16 innings pitched.

Avery currently leads the Navigators in a number of different offensive categories, and is hitting .320 with a home run and 10 RBI. Avery is sixth in the NECBL in hits (32), first in triples (3), and sixth in stolen bases (8). The California native has had 10 multi-hit games this season and had an 11-game hitting streak snapped on June 29.

Banos, a native of Lynnfield, leads the Navigators in hitting with a .329 average, and he also has a home run and six RBI. Banos has reached base safely in each of his last 15 games while playing regularly in all three outfield spots this season.

Kuehl is hitting .312 on the season and is sixth in the NECBL in RBI (18) and sixth in stolen bases (8). Kuehl has been outstanding over his last 15 games, hitting .328 (21-for-64) with 16 RBI. The California native has had four three-hit games on the season.

Dent was a late arrival this season to North Shore because Florida was competing in the College World Series at Omaha, but he has hit .294 with a .385 on-base percentage in nine games to this point with the team. Dent is the son of former three-time MLB All-Star, Bucky Dent.

Tafelski has hit .263 with a .400 on-base percentage in 17 games for the Navigators. He leads the team with 15 runs scored, good for 10th in the league and first among NECBL catchers.
