IRVINE, Calif. -- The NAIA No. 8-ranked Sea Lions lost at Concordia 13-4 on Thursday. The setback was the fourth straight for Point Loma Nazarene which fell to 9-7 overall, 4-5 GSAC. The Eagles, which have taken the first two games of the conference series, upped their season mark to 11-6, 4-6 GSAC.
Concordia pounded out 17 hits against PLNU pitching on Thursday, with every Eagle starter getting at least one hit. Second baseman Robbie Knowles drove in three while catcher John Hill and shortstop Edgar Guillen had two RBI apiece.
The Sea Lions collected seven hits as a team. All of Point Loma's runs came via the long ball. First baseman Edgar Molina hit a solo homer in the second and shortstop Clinton Harwick hammered a three-run shot in the ninth.
The Eagles plated runs in five frames: three in the second and third; five in the fifth and one in the eighth.
PLNU starter Chris Gonzales suffered the loss, falling to 1-1 on the season. Gonzales surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in four innings of work. Josh Dexheimer, Justin Westeteyen and Maurice Wilhelm all threw in relief and all gave up at least one run.
Brent Clapper improved to 3-2 for the Eagles after a seven-inning stint in which he yielded just one run on four hits.
The last two games of the series between Point Loma and Concordia moves to Carroll B. Land Stadium on Saturday. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 11:00 am.
