COSTA MESA, Calif. – The NAIA third-ranked Point Loma Nazarene women's tennis team defeated No. 8-ranked Concordia 6-3 Tuesday at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center. The Sea Lions improved to 11-0 overall on the year, 7-0 in GSAC play. PLNU won both of its matches with the Eagles this year.
The two squads split the singles points. Sea Lions Kristin Strimple (7-5, 6-0 over Bettina Radke), Rachel Owens (6-0, 7-5 over Casey O'Connor) and Wileen Chiu (6-1, 6-2 over Summer Beiard) each won in straight sets on courts one, five and six respectively.
CIU (8-5, 6-4 GSAC) claimed wins on two (Jordan Kimura 6-1, 6-0 over Ashley Litchfield); three (Johanna Sceresini 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Jessica Kwan) and four (Kristen Yep over Maika Adair 7-6, 6-0).
Point Loma rolled to wins in each doubles contest, however, to come away with the 6-3 team win. Strimple and Litchfield prevailed 8-4 on one; Owens and Kwan won 8-4 on two and Kiersten Steinhauer and Wileen Chiu cruised 8-3.
Loma won't be returning home just yet. The ladies will drive up north for another match on Wednesday against rival No. 1 Fresno Pacific. The match takes place on the Sunbird's courts starting at 10 a.m.
