SAN DIEGO – The Sea Lions kept their perfect record going with a 9-0 blanking of visiting Westmont Saturday afternoon at the PLNU Tennis Courts. NAIA third-ranked Point Loma Nazarene improved to 6-0, 4-0 in conference while the #23 Warriors slipped to 0-6, 0-3 GSAC.
Singles began competition. Before it was over the Sea Lions had already claimed the team win. PLNU pitched a pair of shutouts: Maika Adair against Sarah Chhum on five and Wileen Chiu over Alegra Aulie on six. Jessica Kwan and Rachel Owens nearly did the same on three and four, respectively. Both players posted 6-0, 6-1 wins.
Kristin Strimple upped her season mark to 15-2 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Illisa Mathews on court one while Ashley Litchfield cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 victory on court two.
Up 6-0 heading into doubles, PLNU Coach Rich Hills adjusted his lineup, taking Litchfield, Strimple and Chiu out. The duo of Kwan/Kiersten Steinhauer moved up to court one and notched an 8-4 win. Adair and Samantha Mohr rolled to an 8-1 triumph on two as did Kolbie Kiefer and Hope Penner on three.
The Sea Lions take a few days off before hosting The Master's College next Saturday starting at noon.
