Sea Lions Beaten at Biola

Four-Run 1st Sinks PLNU

BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. -- Though Point Loma Nazarene allowed just seven hits, one was a first-inning grand slam and Biola went on to beat the Sea Lions 7-2 Monday afternoon. The game was one of two make up games rained out last weekend.

The loss drops NAIA No. 8-ranked PLNU to 9-5 overall, 4-3 GSAC. The Eagles improved to 10-8, 4-3.

Loma found themselves behind the eight ball early when Drake Fages hit a first-inning grand slam to put Biola out in front early. The Sea Lions halved the deficit with a run in both the second and third innings but the latter would end the day's scoring for PLNU.

Eagle starter Nick Tuner improved to 2-1 with solid seven-inning stint in which he allowed just two runs on seven hits. Kyle Atkins and Jonathan Cade each threw a scoreless frame in relief.

Sea Lion starter Brett Carlile settled down after surrendering Fages' blast, giving up just one more run in the seventh. Still, Carlile (2-1) was hung with the loss. Kelsen Boyer was hit up for two runs in one inning of work.

Allen Boyer returned to the PLNU lineup and was already in midseason form, knocking out three hits in four at-bats. Edgar Molina and Rashad Taylor had two hits apiece in the loss.

The Sea Lions will be in Irvine on Wednesday and Thursday to take on the Concordia Eagles. Both game start at 2:00 pm.
