BOX SCORE
IRVINE, Calif. – The Sea Lions suffered their third straight conference setback on Wednesday, losing at Concordia 9-3. NAIA No. 8-ranked Point Loma Nazarene fell to 9-6 overall, 4-4 in the Golden State Athletic Conference while the Eagles improved to 10-6, 3-6 GSAC.
Down 2-0 after three full innings, the Sea Lions pushed across all three of their runs in the top of the fourth. Stott Stidham doubled to start the frame and Shain Stoner followed with his third homer of the year.
PLNU's third run in the inning came when Edgar Molina walked and Rashad Taylor singled to put two on with no outs. A CUI error allowed Molina to make it home from second on the next play, but the Sea Lions weren't able to capitalize more on the opportunity.
It was all Eagles from that point on, helped out by shaky Loma defense. Concordia scored three in the fifth and two in both the sixth and eighth innings for the 9-3 final.
Sea Lion starter Garrett Leven (2-3) took the loss after allowing seven runs, three earned, in six frames. Jack Archie and Oliver Craig each threw scoreless innings of relief.
Dean Persinger (1-2) picked up the win for Concordia after a seven inning start. Jacob McBride closed the game out with two scoreless innings.
Matt Ivanhoff did most of the damage for the Eagles, driving in five runs.
Stidham, Taylor and Allen Boyer each had two hits apiece for PLNU.
The same two teams will be back at it for game two of their four-game series on Thursday. First pitch in Irvine is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
