Seven-Run Frame Lifts Loma

PLNU scored 7 runs in the fourth in beating SDCC 9-7

BOX SCORE

SAN DIEGO – Point Loma Nazarene scored seven runs in the fourth inning and beat visiting San Diego Christian 9-7 in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at Carroll B. Land Stadium. The Sea Lions sent 11 men to the plate during their outburst and erased a 4-2 deficit.

The win pushes PLNU's record to 25-17 while the Hawks fell to 6-32.

Loma found itself in a hole after starter Kelsen Boyer surrendered three runs in the first inning. The Hawks added another run in the third to go up 4-0 but the Sea Lions chipped at the deficit with two runs in the third.

The team's next at bat saw the Green and Gold plate seven runs on five hits.  Jack Diamond's RBI double started the run with Scott Stidham and Rashad Taylor each driving in two in the inning.

That would be it as far as scoring for the Sea Lions but it would be enough despite San Diego Christian pushing across three in the fifth.

Taylor led the 12-hit attack with a 3-for-5, three RBI performance. Stidham also drove in three and had two hits as did Diamond and Tyler Kuehl.

Kellen Stewart (1-0) earned the win after a 2.2 inning stint in relief. Josh Dexheimer tossed two scoreless frames as did Maurice Wilhelm who picked up his seventh save.

Marco Solis started and lost for SDCC, dropping to 2-3. Solis allowed nine runs (eight earned) in 3.2 innings.

The Sea Lions welcome Chapman University for a non-conference tilt on Thursday starting at 3:00 pm.
