SAN DIEGO – NAIA No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene was beaten by No. 1 Fresno Pacific 7-2 Wednesday in the final home match of the year for the Sea Lions. Playing in their final home contests of their career were Joel Myers and DJ Jaehnig.
Loma's record falls to 14-6 overall with 9-4 in GSAC while Fresno is bumped up to 21-2 overall and 14-0 in conference.
Singles played first and Loma was only able to pull one point from the bunch after a tough three-setter. The win came from Jaehnig on court five, losing the first set 6-2 but then coming back to win the second by the same score and finally taking the match by being ahead 3-2 when his opponent Amarit Sanchez retired.
The rest of the Sea Lions lost in straight sets with Myers on court one falling 6-2, 6-3, Tyler Bowman on two losing both sets 6-2, on three KC Ensley was beat 6-2, 6-1, Diego Tavera on court four lost both of his sets 6-2 and finally No. 6 Mike Zablan finished with 6-0, 6-2.
Doubles told a similar story. No. 1 team Myers and Ensley lost 8-2 while Diego Tavera and Bowman lost by a slightly smaller margin of 8-4. The Sea Lions' doubles point came by default as Sanchez could no longer play.
Next up for Loma is its last GSAC conference match played against Azusa Pacific in Azusa on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
