SAN DIEGO -- NAIA No. 7-ranked Point Loma Nazarene fell at NCAA DI San Diego State 7-0 Thursday afternoon in match that was recently added to the Sea Lion schedule.
SDSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the contest thanks to victories in two of three doubles matches (NCAA DI teams count doubles as one point).
Joel Myers and
KC Ensley did pick up a big 8-6 win on one, though.
Tyler Bowman and
Diego Tavera lost 8-6 on two while
DJ Jaehnig and
Angel Tavera lost 8-5 on three.
The Aztecs (6-14) wrapped up the sweep by taking each singles point in straight sets. From the top position down: Myers lost to Giovanni Vaglietti 6-4, 3-1 (ret); Bowman was beaten by Javier Puglar 6-3, 6-4; Ensley dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Andre Feliz;
Diego Tavera was topped by Hunter Nicholas 6-4, 6-0; Jaehnig lost to Juan Flores 6-3, 6-1 and
Michael Zablan was beaten 6-2, 7-6 (3) by Matthew Tosches.
Point Loma (14-7) returns to GSAC play with a match at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday starting at 2:00 pm.
