SAN DIEGO – Point Loma Nazarene held the visiting Mustangs to just 17 buckets Saturday night in Golden Gymnasium as the Green and Gold cruised to a 66-49 GSAC win.

With the win and with Concordia defeating Westmont 86-83 in overtime tonight, the Sea Lions (18-7, 11-5 GSAC) find themselves all alone in second place in the Golden State Athletic Conference. PLNU travels to Irvine on Tuesday to take on CIU. Tip-off for that game with huge ramifications in the standings is at 7:30 pm.

TMC registered the first points Saturday, a 3-pointer from Devin Dyer. The Mustangs were up 6-2 before guard Hayden Lescault drained a trey for the Sea Lions.

Todd Campbell followed a TMC bucket with two of his own to put the Green and Gold in front 9-8. The Mustangs went back ahead by two points and maintained their advantage until the 8:07 mark.

Wil Bush, who scored 11 first-half points, sank a jumper at that time to put the Sea Lions back in the lead – this time for good.

Point Loma put together an 11-0 run to push ahead 30-17 at 2:07 and left the court for halftime with a 33-21 lead.

The Sea Lions shot 65 percent in the first half and were deadly from the 3-point line, making 5-8 (63 percent).

TMC came out of the break with a 5-2 spurt to close the gap to nine points until Campbell stopped the run with a turnaround jumper off the glass. The junior forward followed up that shot with an 18-foot jumper on the next possession.

Those shots saw the momentum shift back to Point Loma. In between Mustang misses Lescault sank a pair of free throws and Bush made a plus-one to propel the Sea Lions to a 19-point lead at the 14-minute mark.

A three by Marek Klassen and two Campbell buckets with six and half minutes to go widened the margin to 25 points. PLNU's largest lead was 26 at 3:12. The Mustangs only had 33 points at that stage of the game.

The Sea Lions ended up shooting 59 percent for the game and outrebounded the Mustangs 27-22. Three PLNU players scored in double-figures led by 16 points from Bush. Bush hit 6 of 7 shot and all three of his trey attempts. Campbell had 15 (7-9 from the field) with Greg Murray adding 10.

The leading scorer for TMC (17-11, 9-7 GSAC) was Anthony Cammon with 20 points, who scored most of his points in the final few minutes of play. The Mustangs host Azusa Pacific on Tuesday.

The triumph avenges PLNU's 66-63 loss at TMC in January.

After Tuesday's tilt at Concordia, the Sea Lions will host Vanguard Saturday in the final regular season game of the year. The Lions beat PLNU earlier in the season, 74-62.
