SAN DIEGO - In an early season match that has possible implications for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) regional playoffs the Point Loma women's tennis team fell to Azusa Pacific 6-3 on Friday, Feb. 1.
The Sea Lions picked up wins in the No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles positions.
Hope Penner picked up a 7-5 and 6-1 win over Danae Ingwaldson in the battle of the No. 2s.
Sharon Reibstein swept her opponent in the No. 6 spot to earn another point for PLNU. She took down Bethany Duval in straight sets 6-1 and 6-4.
Wileen Chiu had to battle to collect her team point as she and Samantha Kaneta split the first sets 6-2 and 4-6. Chiu earned the point by winning the tiebreaker 10-7.
Chiu was also involved in the best doubles of the day. She and partner
Kiersten Steinhauer battled the Cougars' duo of Kim Koetterheinrich and Lindsey Yeom to a tiebreaker, but APU was able to come away with the 8-7 win and en route sweep the doubles competition.
The PLNU women's team will be back in action at home on Tuesday, Feb. 5 when they take on UC San Diego at 2:30 p.m.
