SAN DIEGO – The Point Loma women's tennis team bounced back from Friday night's loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a dominant 8-1 win over NCAA Division I Villanova on Saturday (Mar. 2).

The Sea Lions started the match on fire by winning all six singles encounters in straight sets. PLNU wrapped up the match in singles when Maika Adair took down Mikelle Mancini at No. 1, 6-4 and 6-2. This gave PLNU the fifth and decisive team point.

Point Loma had quickly picked up points in singles at the No. 3-6 positions. Sharon Reibstein moved up from No. 5 to No. 3 singles and still swept Amanda Nelson in straight sets 6-2 and 6-1. Willeen Chiu took down Wesleigh Donadio at No. 4 singles in nearly flawless fashion, 6-1 and 6-0. At No. 5 singles, Preethika Venugopal defeated Anne Cognetti 6-2 and 6-0. Kirsty Mountain added a 6-2 and 6-2 victory over Yalda Hajavi at No. 6 singles.

PLNU would pick up two more points in doubles as the duo of Kiersten Steinhauer and Chiu won at No. 2, 8-1, and Adair and Mountain won at No. 3, 8-5.

The Point Loma women's tennis team will now prepare to host Pacific West Conference opponent Hawaii Hilo on Thursday (Mar. 7) at noon. The squad will take a 3-6 overall record into the match.
