CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Point Loma women's tennis team took two of three doubles matches from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps but the Athenas handily won singles to prevail in the match over the Sea Lions 6-3 on Friday (Mar. 1).
PLNU picked up a point at No. 2 doubles when
Kiersten Steinhauer and
Wileen Chiu edged Sarah Kikino and Yvonne Likomanova in a tiebreaker 9-8.
Maika Adair and
Kirsty Mountain added to the Sea Lions' point total with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
Sharon Reibstein was the lone singles winner for Point Loma on Friday. She swept Likomanova in the No. 5 singles position, 6-1 and 6-2.
At No. 1 singles,
Maika Adair pushed Kristin Lim to a third set tiebreaker after splitting the first two sets (6-7 and 6-2). Lim was then able edge Adair in the decisive set 10-8 to come away with the match and the point for the Athenas.
PLNU will return home on Saturday to host Villanova. The Sea Lion and Wildcat women will face off at 1:00 p.m., and the men will play at 4:00 p.m.
