PHOENIX - The Point Loma baseball team dropped game two of its Pacific West Conference series against Grand Canyon, 12-1, on Friday (Mar. 8).
The win snaps a three-game winning streak for PLNU. The Sea Lions are now 8-9 on the season and 6-4 in the PacWest. The win moves the 'Lopes to 10-5 on the season and to 5-1 in conference.
Brandon Smith went 3-for-4 with two run scored, three RBI and three stolen bases to lead Grand Canyon. Derek Mendoza and Seth Fretheim added two RBI apiece for the 'Lopes.
Andrew Naderer (3-1) gave up just four hits and one run over seven innings pitched to pick up the win for GCU.
Sebastian Santos took the loss for the Sea Lions to fall to 2-1 on the season.
Grand Canyon took the lead in the bottom of the first on Mendoza's RBI single. The Lopes would then add five-run innings in the third and the seventh to seal the victory.
The game was called in the bottom of the eighth inning due to weather.
These teams will conclude their series with a doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 9) starting at 11:00 a.m. The teams will play two seven inning games.
