WAIPIO, Hawaii - The Point Loma men's tennis team swept doubles and then got points in singles from
Daniel Milliken and
Jakob Kevelaerts to prevail over Hawaii Hilo 5-0 on Friday, Apr. 19 at the Pacific West Championships.
The win moves PLNU (8-16) into the finals of the consolation bracket where it will face BYU-Hawaii on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The Sea Lions dominated at No. 2 and No 3 doubles. The duo of
Bram Kevelaerts and
Michael Zablan won at No. 2 double 8-1.
Daniel Milliken and
Kaptan Kaster where nearly as dominant as they cruised to an 8-2 win.
Brooks Baldinger and Jakob Kevelarts found themselves in a battle at the No. 1 spot with Tom Greer-Smith and Kainoa Rosa but edged the Vulcan duo 9-7.
PLNU took a 3-0 lead into singles.
Jakob Kevelaerts and Milliken would not leave much to doubt as each won their singles match in straight sets to secure the win for Point Loma. Keelaerts won 6-4 and 6-0 at No. 3s. Milliken posted a 6-1 and 6-1 victory at No. 5.
The other four singles matches went unfinished as PLNU had already captured five team points.
PLNU and BYU-Hawaii met earlier this season in San Diego. The Seasiders edged the Sea Lions in the matchup 5-4 as the teams split singles but BYUH won thanks to a 2-1 advantage in doubles. The match for fifth place will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
