Box Score
HILO, Hawaii - The Sea Lions' bats came alive on Wednesday and senior
Garret Levsen delivered seven scoreless innings as Point Loma salvaged the final game of its series against Hawaii Hilo with a 8-4 win on Wednesday (Mar. 12).
Matt Jervis went 2-for-4 with a career-high three RBI to lead PLNU (12-9, 5-3 PacWest) to its second road win of the season.
Tyler Hanzawa also had two hits and knocked in two runs while
Tyler Nordgren was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
PLNU got on the board first with two runs in fourth on an RBI-groundout by
AJ Derr and a run-scoring single by Jervis. The Sea Lions added three more in the sixth on another RBI by Jervis and a two-run, bases loaded single by Hanzawa. They extended their lead to 7-0 with two runs in the seven as Nordgren and Jervis each drove in runs.
Those runs would be all Levsen (3-1) would need as he shut the Vulcans out for the first seven innings. The senior from Whittier, Calif., allowed just eight hits and no walks while striking out two.
The Vulcans never figured Levsen out but they were able to put a bit of a scare in the Sea Lions when they rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth off the bullpen. However,
Anthony Torres was able to come in and get two outs to end the rally.
Brett Carlile then pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game.
Kyle Watase and Harrison Guiol each had three hits to pace UHH (5-7, 3-5 PacWest). Jordyn Ah Chong (0-2) took the loss after allowing seven hits and four runs in 5.1 innings.Â
Point Loma will now travel to Hawaii Pacific to face the Sea Warriros in a four-game series starting on Friday, Mar. 14 at 7:00 p.m. (PST).
