FINAL STRETCH:The Point Loma baseball team will return home, after being on the road since the beginning of April, to host a pair of Pacific West Conference series to close out its 2014 regular season. The Sea Lions will welcome in conference-leader, Dixie State, for a four-game series on Apr. 25-26. Academy of Art will then come to town on May 2-3 to close out the regular season.

A LOOK AT POINT LOMA:The Sea Lions will be looking to snap out of a recent funk in which they have dropped two straight series on the road. PLNU enters the weekend 20-21 on the season and in sixth place in the PacWest standings with an 11-13 record.
Tyler Nordgren leads Point Loma and ranks 10th in the PacWest with a .356 batting average. His 37 RBI and 15 doubles have him ranked third in the league, and he is also sixth in home runs (four) and total bases (80).
Clinton Harwick is 11th in the league with a .352 batting average. He is sixth in the PacWest with 56 hits, seventh in stolen bases with 12 and eighth with 32 runs scored.
On the mound,
Kellen Sheppard paces the Sea Lions with a 2.59 ERA. He is 4-3 during his freshman campaign. Senior
Garret Levsen leads the team with five wins (5-2) and three complete games. He has a 3.08 ERA this season as a starter. Five different Sea Lion pitchers have recorded a save this season, including
Brett Carlile and
Kevin Lillicrop who both have two under their belt.
As a team, PLNU leads the PacWest with 169 walks and nine sacrifice flies. The Sea Lions are also second in extra base hits (53).
A LOOK AT DIXIE STATE:The Red Storm come into the weekend with a four-game lead in the PacWest standings. They are 29-13 on the year and 20-4 in the PacWest. DSC has won five of its six PacWest series this year, with the only other series being a 2-2 split with Azusa Pacific.
John Conquy leads the Red Strom pitching staff and ranks fourth in the league with a 2.10 ERA. He has allowed just eight walks in his 60 innings of work while striking out 44. Closer Evan Parker has also been an anchor at the backend of the bullpen. He has a PacWest-leading 11 saves to go along with a 0.96 ERA and 22 Ks in 18.2 innings pitched.
Trey Kamachi leads DSC and ranks fifth in the PacWestwith a .378 batting average. He is also fourth in runs scored (38) and second in on-base percentage (.469). Kevin Kline is leading the PacWest with 42 runs driven in. He is also fourth in home runs (six) and doubles (14).
As a team, Dixie State leads the PacWest in doubles (77), RBI (245) and total bases (594). The Red Storm also rank second in walks (152), home runs (26), on-base percentage (.391) and slugging percentage (.422).
PLAYOFF PUSH:Point Loma has the opportunity to play in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) playoffs during the school's transition to NCAA Division II. This year the Sea Lions are seeking a bid into the NCCAA West Regional. To qualify PLNU must finish the 2014 season with a .500 or better record.
NEXT WEEK:PLNU will close out its 2014 regular season schedule when it hosts Academy of Art in a four-game series on May 2-3. Doubleheaders will be played each day starting at Noon. Saturday's contest will also be Senior Day for nine PLNU seniors.
