(SAN DIEGO) The PLNU Track & Field Invitational on Saturday marked the final home meet for longtime Point Loma Head Coach
Jerry Arvin, who will be retiring after this season.
Â
It sure was a memorable one.
Â
The Sea Lions overcame rainy and windy conditions to win three individual events and finish in the top-five in a host of others.
"It was an extremely unusual day for a Loma track meet at home – cloudy, rainy, cool and constantly changing winds," Arvin said. "We were blessed to have great officials who worked in those conditions without one complaint. I was extremely proud of how well our ladies performed, as well as helping in all aspects of being meet hosts."
Â
Anessa Chirgwin won the discus throw for the second-straight meet and for the third time overall this season, placing first with a mark of 44.74 meters.
Â
Â
Madelynn Worley crossed the finish line first in the 200 meters, running a time of 25.13 seconds. She also placed third in the 100 meters (12.22 seconds) to move up into a tie-for-fourth in program history in the event.
Â
Â
Eva Koutelieris won the pole vault with a season-best mark of 3.66 meters, with teammates
Peyton Yoshida (second place – 3.51 meters),
Brianne Camarena (third place – 3.36 meters) and
Danielle Gould (fifth place – 3.36 meters) also finishing in the top-five.
Â
Â
Aubrie Nex placed second in the 1500 meters for the second-straight week, finishing in 4:42.90, followed by
Elizabeth Satterlee (4:49.44) and
Maddie Reeves (4:51.12) in third and fifth respectively.
Â
Â
Makenna Sullivan finished second in the long jump (5.01 meters), third in the triple jump (10.45 meters) and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.81).
Â
Â
Blanca Granados placed third in the 200 meters (25.71 seconds), as did
Millie Bledsoe in the 100-meter hurdles (15.32 seconds) and
Ava Wangen in the hammer throw (35.93 meters).
Â
Nica Zsiros finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (15.62 seconds).
Â
Bledsoe (long jump – 4.90 meters), Wangen (discus – 32.77 meters) and Satterlee (800 meters – 2:23.70) all placed fifth in their respective events.
Â
The 4x100 meter relay team of
Lillian Gomez, Granados, Worley and
Brynn Celani finished third (48.70 seconds), as did the 4x400 meter quartet of
Bree Gentry,
Helena Simms, Worley and Granados.
"Now that our home meets for the 2024 season are completed, we can focus on being the best team possible by the conference meet," Arvin said. "Despite the trying conditions, we still had multiple season bests as well as personal bests. It is good to see the girls benefit from all their hard work."
Â
Point Loma will compete next at the Vince O'Boyle Classic, hosted by UC Irvine, on Friday and Saturday.
"This is a really special group of young ladies who are willing to work and sacrifice for themselves and their teammates," Arvin said. "I'm looking forward to watching them at UC Irvine next weekend."
