Anessa Chirgwin finished her stellar Sea Lions career with a 10th place finish in the discus throw at the NCAA Championships on Friday.
Â
"It was a good day and Anessa competed very well," Head Coach
Jerry Arvin said. "I'm truly proud of her performance and how she represented Point Loma today and over the past four years."
Â
Competing at nationals for the second time, Chirgwin entered the meet with the 18th best mark in all of NCAA Division II but moved up eight spots to earn a top-10 finish.
Â
Â
Chirgwin's mark of 44.99 meters had her just miss out on a place in the finals, with the top-nine throwers receiving three extra attempts.
Â
The program record holder improved her mark in each of her three throws on the day.
Â
"School records are hard to come by and school record holders will always be missed," Arvin said. "Anessa will be very hard to replace, not just as a thrower but as a great teammate and a strong team leader who's committed to the spiritual growth of her teammates."
Â
The meet officially marks the end of Arvin's illustrious coaching tenure, with the PLNU Hall of Famer retiring after coaching on The Point since 1994.
