(SAN DIEGO) Starting pitcher
Derek Silva was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, while PLNU Baseball was tabbed as the conference's Team of the Week after registering its fourth-straight sweep to open PacWest play.
On Saturday at Menlo, Silva hurled 5.1 shutout innings to lower his season ERA to a PacWest-best 0.79 and extend his scoreless innings streak to 19.
He also struck out eight batters to raise his season total to 40, which ranks second in the conference.
Silva leads all PacWest players with 34.1 innings pitched this year, limiting his opponents to a miniscule .178 batting average against him.
Point Loma (20-3 overall, 16-0 PacWest), winners of 16-straight games, have swept four-straight series for the first time in the program's NCAA era. PLNU next travels to play a four-game conference series at Fresno Pacific. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
