SAN DIEGO -- NAIA eighth-ranked Point Loma Nazarene survived a scare from visiting Our Lady of the Lake (TX) Wednesday afternoon. The Sea Lions lost two of the three doubles points and were on their heels when singles play began but rallied to win four points in head-to-head competition to pull out the 5-3 team win (one singles match did not finish.) 

PLNU improved to 7-4 on the year and dropped the Saints to 2-4.

The Green and Gold claimed just one point in doubles, that coming at the top of the ladder on court one where Tyler Bowman and Gregory De Andrade cruised to an 8-2 win over Santiago Padilla and Aaron Rodriguez.

OLLU, from San Antonio, won on courts two and three however, by similar 8-5 scores.

De Andrade made quick work of Kudakwashe Sengai on court two to even the match at 2-2. The other five points were hotly contested with all but one eventually going in Point Loma's favor. Bowman topped Luis Rovira 6-3, 7-6 on one; Michael Zablan defeated Pedro Arteaga on five and Chad Rubin won on six to make the score 5-2 PLNU.

Diego Tavera battled but was finally beaten by Matt Ellis on four with KC Ensley and Juan Arteaga on three calling off their match before play was completed.

The Sea Lions take some time off before returning to conference action when they host Azusa Pacific on Thursday, March 22, starting at 2:00 pm. That match will mark the 12th time out of 13 contests that PLNU has hosted.
