Sea Lions Snap Skid at SDCC

The NAIA No. 10-ranked PLNU swept SDCC in three sets for its second conference victory of the season (25-12, 25-23, 25-19). The Sea Lions improved to 2-3 in conference and 12-3 on the season. The Hawks remain winless in conference at 0-5 but are 8-8 overall.

Point Loma smashed 46 winners compared to 29 from San Diego Christian, had more assists (44-26) and bested the home team on blocks (5-2). PLNU's hitting was at .394 compared to SDCC's .205.

Fresh off of three consecutive conference losses and a three-slot drop in the national rankings, the Sea Lions must have been relieved to win the first set by 13. In the second, however, the Hawks nearly pushed PLNU into extra points, finishing 25-23 – that in the set in which Point Loma hit with the greatest accuracy at .515.

The Sea Lions' kills percentage fell to .286 in the third, but the arsenal still managed a six-point victory over their crosstown rivals to end the match.

NAIA kills leader Tabitha Henken was the only player in double digits Tuesday, with 16 kills. Next in line was Karleigh Kaczmarek with nine on just 13 swings. Kylie Morel and Natalie Hamill split setting duties, contributing 18 and 19 assists, respectively. The setting duo had nine digs apiece as well.

The Hawks offense was spread around. Rachel Blair led the team with six kills. Kelsey Stevens led the floor in digs with 10.

The Sea Lions play another road game Saturday in which they take on Westmont College at 2 p.m.
