SAN DIEGO - Five Sea Lions scored in double figures in the team's 75-58 conference win against The Master's Saturday night in Golden Gym. The triumph pushes Point Loma Nazarene's overall mark to 9-6 overall, 5-1 in the GSAC.
PLNU played efficiently on offense and were solid defensively, shooting 53.9 percent and pulling in 13 more rebounds than did their opponent (39-26). A good sign for the Green and Gold was their 15-for-20 effort from the free throw line.
The Mustangs scored the first points of the game until a pair of free throws and a jumper by Todd Campbell put the Sea Lions ahead by two. The GSAC rivals would be tied once more at 6-6 but it would be all Loma from that point on.
Point Loma went ahead by 11 at 8:22 and pushed their advantage to 14 at 2:20 before heading into intermission in front 36-25. The Master's made a brief run to cut the deficit to seven points early in the second stanza, but the Sea Lions regained control of the tilt and went right back up by double figures.
That lead reached to a game-high 24 with 3:40 left was 17 at game's end.
Four of PLNU's five starters scored at least 10 points led by 15 from Marek Klassen. Greg Murray added 11 points with both Rhett Beal and James Hancock adding 10. Sub Wil Bush tallied 13 points to the win.
Hancock pulled in 10 rebounds and dished out six assists – both team bests.
Devin Dyer finished with 15 points to pace the Mustangs which shot just 36.8 percent. Ronnie Dodd and Anthony Cameron added 13 and 12 points respectively in the loss.
PLNU hosts fifth-ranked Concordia on Tuesday, tip-off at 7:30 p.m. The Eagles are 14-2, 6-0 in the GSAC.
