BOX SCORE
No. 6 Sea Lions defeated visiting No. 10 Vanguard 8-1 in a conference match Tuesday afternoon. Loma's record improves to 13-4 overall and 8-3 in GSAC while Vanguard drops to 6-12 overall with 4-8 in GSAC.
Doubles began this match and the Green and Gold played well, proudly coming away with all three match points. First to finish was No. 3 team Angel Tavera and DJ Jaehnig winning 8-0, soon followed by No. 2 team Diego Tavera and Tyler Bowman with a final score of 8-2. The only match that gave Loma a little trouble was on court one against Joel Myers and KC Ensley but they soon conquered with 8-5.
Momentum from doubles carried PLNU to singles but the Sea Lions had to fight for some of their wins. The bottom of the ladder finished well with Jaehnig on court five winning 6-3, 6-3 and Mike Zablan on court six winning 6-3, 6-2.
The middle ladder won in straight sets too, but they had to work for several of those sets. Both Diego Tavera on court four and Bowman on court two had tough starts. Diego Tavera edged 7-6 in the first set but he overcame it in the second, powering through to win 6-0. Bowman also won his first set 7-5 and finished stronger with 6-1 in his second set. Ensley on court three started strong with a 6-3 win in his first set but had to work hard in the second, following it up 7-6.
Myers was the only Sea Lion to split sets and barely lost today against Lucas Pereira. Myers lost the first 6-4, then came back to win the second 6-3. A long drawn out tie breaker ended the match 13-11 for Pereira.
The men get to rest for the rest of the week to get ready to play Biola in a conference match on Saturday. The match will be held on Biola's courts and begins at 10 a.m.
