SAN DIEGO – NAIA sixth-ranked Point Loma Nazarene and No. 7-ranked Vanguard played a GSAC match for the second straight day.  Unfortunately, for the Sea Lions, VUSC won for the second straight day, 6-3.

Singles opened up play with the visiting Lions claiming four singles points. Point Loma's two wins came from courts five and six. Chad Rubin beat Radek Rosiak 6-0, 6-3 in quick fashion on six. On court five, Sea Lion Diego Tavera defeated Lukas Larsson in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.  
 
The other courts all swung to Vanguard, although two were marathon three-setters. Point Loma's KC Ensley on court three battled with Yahor Kryvaruchka to win the first set 7-5 but then fell 7-6 in the second set tiebreaker. Ensley couldn't recover from the blow and was defeated 6-2 in the third. Michael Zablan played No. 4 for PLNU and, after losing the first set 7-6, forced opponent Robin Wagner into a third set by winning the second set 7-5. Despite best efforts, Zablan was overcome in the third set 6-4. Greg De Andrade also lost his match to Roger Muri 6-2, 6-3 on two while Tyler Bowman on court one fell to Lucas Pereira 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Sea Lions needed all three doubles points Wednesday but it wasn't to be. The first match to finish was court one where De Andrade and Diego Tavera were defeated by Muri and Kryvaruchka 8-2.That was the clinching point for VUSC.
 
Ensley and Angel Tavera then lost 8-4 to Rosiak and Pereira. Though the match was decided, Sea Lions Bowman and Zablan refused to give up and they were able to pull off the win over Wagner and Larsson 8-6, giving Loma its final point.
 
The men get a couple of days break to prepare for their next match which will take place on Friday against UC San Diego. That 2:30 pm non-conference contest is the final home match of the year for the Sea Lions.
