THIS WEEK:
The No. 25 Point Loma volleyball team will put its first place ranking in the Pacific West Conference on the line this week when it travels to Hawaii for a trio of contests. The Sea Lions will open the trip at Chaminade on Thursday (Oct. 17) at 10:00 p.m. They will then face No. 5 nationally ranked BYU-Hawaii on Friday at 10:30 p.m., before closing the trip out against Hawaii Hilo on Saturday at 10:00 p.m. All times listed in Pacific Standard.

A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
Point Loma (16-3) sits alone in first place in the PacWest Conference at 10-0. The team currently rides a 10 match winning streak, which includes four straight wins on the road in PacWest play. Overall this season the Sea Lions are 5-1 in away matches. Last week PLNU won all three of its matches at home in straight sets to build a one match lead in the conference over California Baptist.
The Sea Lions are second in the PacWest with 1.90 service aces per set. They also rank third in kills (14.1), assists (13.12), hitting percentage (.239) and opponent hitting percentage (.160).Â

Alyssa Dwyer has taken over the top place in the PacWest Conference with a .374 hitting percentage. PLNU setter
Savannah Wedemeyer also sits atop the conference in assists with 11.33 per match.
Heather Leavitt is third with 3.94 kills per set and fifth with 0.38 service aces. Dwyer is also ranked seventh in kills (3.20) and sixth in points (3.84).
Delaney McCraney comes in third in aces with 0.5 per set.
PLNU IN THE TOP 25:
For the first time in school history a Point Loma squad has been ranked in an official NCAA poll as the volleyball team came was listed at No. 25 in the Oct. 14th American Volleyball Coaches Association poll with 72 points. For the previous four weeks Point Loma had been listed in the 'others receiving votes' section of the poll but this is the first week they have cracked the top 25.Â
DIG PINK SET FOR OCT. 24:
Point Loma head coach Sarah Gustin announced that the PLNU volleyball team will host its annual 'Dig Pink Night' on Thursday, Oct. 24 against San Diego Christian. The 'Dig Pink' event is hosted each year in October and November by the American Volleyball Coaches Association to raise awareness and support for breast cancer. The match will be held in Golden Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
GREEN & GOLD FRIDAYS:
Point Loma fans can support the Sea Lions and show pride in PLNU each Friday by wearing your Green & Gold. Wear your schools proudly around campus and to the athletic events each Friday to show your school spirit. This is the first year of the campus-wide initiative created by members of the PLNU Green Sea.
A LOOK AT THE SILVERSWORDS:
Chaminade is 5-9 on the season, 2-7 in the PacWest and 3-4 at home. This will be their first home contest since the end of September. The Silverswords have gone 1-4 in the month of October, with all five matches coming on the road. Kim Spring leads CUH with 3.19 kills and Daniella Montoya paces the team with 5.06 assists.
A LOOK AT THE SEASIDERS:
BYU-Hawaii is 13-1 on the season and 8-1 in the PacWest. The Seasiders are ranked No. 5 in the latest AVCA poll, the highest of all the West Region teams. They have won six straight matches since losing in a five-set battle at Hawaii Pacific for their only conference loss. BYUH leads the league in both hittng percentage (.277) and opponent hitting percentage (.117). Shih Ting Chen leads the league in kills with 4.83 while returning 2012 conference player of the year Ying Chun Chen is second to Wedemeyer in assists (11.23).
A LOOK AT THE VULCANS:
After opening the season with five straight wins the Vulcans have dropped all nine of their contests since entering PacWest play. They currently stand at 5-9 on the season and at 0-9 in the PacWest. Marley Strand-Nicolaisen leads the team with 3.35 kills per set.
NEXT WEEK:
After the trip to Hawaii the Sea Lions will return home to face San Diego Christian in a non-conference battle on Thursday, Oct. 24. This will also be the Dig Pink Night for the Sea Lions. They will then head on the road to Azusa Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 26.
