SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma men's tennis team just missed the chance to play spoiler and end an undefeated season by Vanguard on Tuesday (Apr. 15), but the Lions used their edge in doubles play to hold on for the 5-4 victory.

The win keeps Vanguard's perfect season alive at 22-0 as the Sea Lions dropped to 7-15.

The match opened with doubles where the Lions quickly picked up a win at No. 1s but found themselves in battles at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles with each of the Sea Lion duos. Michael Zablan and Bram Kevelaerts prevailed in a tiebreaker for PLNU at No. 2s, 9-8. The duo of Daniel Milliken and Kaptan Kaster battled at NO. 3 doubles and were trailing just 6-5 but Daymon Johnson and Yahor Kryvaruchka found a way to break the Sea Lions' serve and then hold their own for the 8-5 win and the second team point for the Lions.

PLNU would pick up its singles points at No. 3-5. Jakob Kevelaerts won in straight sets at No. 3 over Lukas Larsson 6-3 and 6-1. His brother Bram Kevelaerts earned another point for Point Loma in the No. 4 singles spot as he won a the first set 6-4, dropped the second 2-6 and then won the tiebreaker 10-8. Milliken also won his match in a tiebreaker 4-6, 7-6 and 10-7.

The Point Loma men's tennis team will now travel to the Pacific West Conference Tennis Championships on Thursday, Apr. 18.
