The two-day, 36-hole tournament will conclude on Tuesday, April 23, when the 12 PacWest teams tee off at 7:30 a.m. MST.

Four players currently are tied for second with a one-over-par 73 score. BYU-Hawaii's Colton Lamb, Notre Dame de Namur's Mike Lyons, Hawai'i Hilo's James Hall and Grand Canyon's Alec Dalhquist all sit four strokes off the lead.
Hawai'i Hilo's Corey Kozuma, Hawai'i Pacific's Travis Miller, BYU-Hawaii's Dillon Dudley and the Dixie State tandem of David Cunningham and Hayden Christensen all are tied for sixth place with two-over-par scores of 74.
The final round of the 2013 PacWest Men's Golf Championship will get underway early on Tuesday morning in the Greater Phoenix area.
Originally scheduled for 54 holes, the tournament was reduced to a 36-hole format with 18 rounds played each day after it was discovered that some groups inadvertently played from a different set of tees on several holes. The first 18 holes played on Monday in effect served as an additional practice round.
“Due to a failure to properly set the golf course for competition, round one of the Pacific West Conference Men's Golf Championship has been eliminated from scoring,” Keith Baker, the athletic director of host institution Grand Canyon University, explained. “After consultation with United States Golf Association representatives, as well as gathering input from the PacWest men's golf coaches at the event, the PacWest Golf Championship Committee made a decision to eliminate the round and reduce the championship from a 54-hole, two-day event to a 36-hole, two-day event.”
Bob Hogue, the commissioner of the PacWest, endorsed the committee's difficult decision.
"I affirm the decision of the committee and thank them for following the PacWest sports regulations, as well as NCAA and USGA rules, during their deliberations regarding this unfortunate occurrence,” he said. “The PacWest and its member institutions strive to provide the best experience possible for our student-athletes. Sometimes circumstances create challenging situations, but I feel the committee did an excellent job of arriving at a solution to maintain the equity and integrity of the competition. We will continue to review championship procedures with our member institutions.”
The decision by the committee was made to keep the integrity of the competition in the wake of the unfortunate circumstances.
“In fairness to all competitors under the rules of golf, the committee deemed it appropriate to eliminate first-round scores,” Baker said. “It was obvious that all players did not play the holes from the same distances.”
Baker explained that teeing areas on three holes were not set appropriately. When the error was discovered, there was concern that some groups had played from the yardages listed on the scorecards while others had played the course from tee markers that were not set to match the cards.
The tee markers were subsequently adjusted to the appropriate distances as listed on the scorecards for round two; however, it is evident that a substantial portion of the 60-player field did not play the same golf course during round one.
“It is the responsibility of the committee to ensure that the players have an opportunity to play the course under equal conditions,” Baker said. “That was not done today and as the host institution we take full responsibility for the situation. I only can apologize to the student-athletes, coaches and fans that follow PacWest golf. Together, Grand Canyon University and Wigwam Resort host several events each year and this is the first time we have ever had an issue like this.”
According to Pacific West Conference sports regulations, the PacWest Men's Golf Championship is managed by the Championship Committee that is comprised of a representative from the PacWest Conference Office, the host institution athletic director, the PacWest administrative liaison, and the head professional at the host golf course. The committee also receives input from participating coaches as well as USGA Rules Officials.
