BEAUMONT, Calif. -
Oscar Casillas tied for 12th place and the
Cole Reese for 14th to lead the Point Loma men's golf team to a fifth place finish at The Tukwet Canyon Men's Intercollegiate with a 901 (+37).
Casillas climbed up six spots during the third round as he fired an even-par 72 on Tuesday at the Tukwet Canyon Champions Golf Course. Casillas dropped strokes from his score each round. He posted a 76 (+4) in the first round and a 73 (+1) in the second, before concluding with a 72 (E).
Cole Reese was just one stroke back of Casillas for the tournament. He posted a 222 (+6) over the three rounds to finish tied for 14th. He registered his best score in the first round where he shot a 1-under 71. He was the only Sea Lion to shoot a round below par in the tourney.
Zane Keith gave PLNU three top 25 finishers. He shot a 228 (+12) to place 25th at the tournament.
Nate Wanken registered the final qualifying score for Point Loma during the third round with a 6-over 78. This was Wanken's best round of the tournament.
Western Washington won the team competition by four strokes over Chico State with a score of 2-under 862. Will Flitcroft, of Chico State, won the individual title after shooting 5-under par (211).
The Sea Lions' next meet will be the NAIA Classic in Indianapolis, Ind., on Apr. 8-9.
