LITCHFIELD, Ariz. - The Point Loma men's golf team wrapped up its 2012-13 season with a ninth place finish at the Pacific West Championships. The team shot a 59-over 635 at the tournament and
Oscar Casillas led the way as he earned All-PacWest second team honors after tying for 13th with a 9-over 153.
PLNU entered day two of the PacWest Championships tied with Dominican for eighth place after both teams shot a 313 (+25) through the first 18 holes. Point Loma would come back in the second round and shoot a 322 (+34) to slip back to ninth place.
Casillas had the best second day for the Sea Lions as he shaved three strokes off his first round score to post a 3-over 75. He finished the tournament shooting a 153 (78-75, +9) to earn PLNU's first-ever All-PacWest men's golf honor. The 75 (+3) was the low round for the Sea Lions at the championships.
Zane Keith gave Point Loma another top 25 finisher when he placed tied for 23rd with a 12-over 156. He paced the Sea Lions after the first day with a 76 (+4). He then registered an 80 (+8) in the final round.
Jack Koeller and
Cole Reese finished with the other two qualifying scores for Point Loma. Koeller shot a 162 with an 80 (+8) in the first round and an 82 (+10) in the second. Reese was two strokes back with a 20-over 164 (79-85).
Grand Canyon won the team title by five strokes over Hawaii Hilo with a 588 (+12). All four qualifying golfers for GCU finished in the top 13. Jimmy Kozikowski, of Grand Canyon, and Dalen Yamauchi, of Hawaii Hilo, tied for the individual title at even-par 144.
