BEAUMONT, Calif. – The Point Loma men's golf team set themselves up for an interesting final round of play as they fired a 598 (+22) over the first two rounds of The Tukwet Canyon Men's Intercollegiate, hosted by Cal Baptist, on Monday, Mar. 25.
The Sea Lions are tied for fifth place with Texas A&M-Commerce on the par-72 Tukwet Canyon Champions Golf Course. PLNU shot a 300 (+12) in the opening round, before shaving two strokes from their score to register a 298 (+10) in the second round. PLNU is just six strokes behind fourth place Cal State Monterey Bay, and six back of Hawaii Hilo. The Sea Lions also hold just a four stroke lead over Northwest Nazarene, who sits in seventh place with a 602 (+26).
Cole Reese leads the team with a 3-over 147. He went 1-under (71) in the first round and 4-over in the second to stand tied for 13th through two rounds.
Oscar Casillas and
Zane Keith also sit in the top 25. Casillas posted a first round score of 76 (+4) and then cut three strokes off his score in the second round to stand tied for 18th place with a 5-over 149. Keith is tied for 22nd, one stroke behind Casillas, with a 6-over 150.
Jake Koeller returned to action and shot a 152 (75-77, +8) to post the fourth qualifying score for the Sea Lions.
Nate Wanken shot a 158 (+14) to register the alternate score for PLNU.
The Tukwet Canyon Men's Intercollegiate will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
