SAN DIEGO - The Point Loma volleyball team posted the seventh-best hitting percentage in school history en route to sweeping Holy Names 25-12, 25-13 and 25-14 in a Pacific West Conference contest at Golden Gymnasium on Saturday, Sept. 20.

PLNU (5-5, 2-0 PacWest) slammed down 43 kills and had just seven errors in 79 attempts to record a .468 hitting percentage. It Point Loma's best mark since hitting .483 against Notre Dame de Namur last season. Four Sea Lions had a .500 or better hitting percentage with five or more kills in the victory.

Heather Leavitt led the way with a match-high 14 kills on 20 attempts with just one error for a .650 hitting percentage. Delaney McCraney and Briana Vieth played error-free matches and recorded five and six kills, respectively. Savannah Wedemeyer managed to dish out 36 assists in the three-set match, and also added five service aces.

Point Loma outscored Holy Names (0-8, 0-2 PacWest) 59-27 in the match. The Sea Lions posted a .684 hitting percentage in the first set, and a .520 mark in the second with just one error per set. PLNU also had a season-best 12 service aces.

"This match we really tried to focus on ourselves in a couple different areas," said PLNU head coach
Jonathan Scott. "We performed really nicely for the most part in those areas.

"One of the great things about being at home is we get to be in our routine so it was nice that we got to work on ourselves this week," Scott added.

The Sea Lions played 12 student-athletes, and nine record a kill.

"It is really important to get everyone game experience," said Scott. "As much as everyone gets equal playing time at practice it is important to get them game experience."

The Sea Lions will now head on the road to the Bay Area for three contests next weekend. They will face Dominican (CA) on Thursday, Notre Dame de Namur on Friday and have rematch with Holy Names on Saturday.

"We are just trying to stick with the theme of focusing on ourselves right now," Scott concluded.
